One of our Members, Randy Hecht participtaed in the escort of the 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall from Augusta, Georgia to Roswell, Georgia.  Here's a short story he provided.

The recent escort ride for the Dignity Viet Nam wall occurred on July 1 beginning in Augusta, GA and ending in Roswell, GA approximately 2:00 pm. For those who could not attend it was a good ride. For those who worked and provided the escort and traffic management – you performed expertly and brought some well deserved praise from the Viet Nam, some family members, and rest of the vets and others who participated. GA State Patrol did an outstanding job, along with DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, and Roswell PD. Randy was asked to specifically thank those from Roswell PD who stood at the entrance to Greenlawn as you saluted the truck and its cargo representing 5,480 names of fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airman, and members of the Coast Guard, you brought many tears to some harden eyes and they thank you.

Another one of our members of the Chapter, Walter Swenson represented Purple Heart Chapter 476 and placed a Purple Heart at the apex of The Wall along with a plaque explaining its significance.

For those interested in some of the pictures they can be seen at:2008 Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall Galleries .  Randy and his Gold Wing are in picture #23 in the gallery numbered 070108 arrival of the wall and Walter and the Purple Heart are picture #46 in the same gallery (Walter's the one wearing the tie.)

The opening ceremony is July 4th, 2008 at 10:00 am, but the “wall” is open to Vets, family, and those wishing to remember 24 hours a day until Sunday July 6 at 5:00 pm until the closing ceremony.  Then it will be taken down, packed and start its journey to Colorado. There is a motorcycle escort leaving between 6:30 and 7:00 pm per the schedule.

One of our members, Jamie Lilly was invited last week by State Senator Wiles to witness Governor Sonny Perdue sign State Bill 350 on May 22, 2008. This new bill states the 4th offense of driving without a license within a 5 year span, will become a felony. Before, driving without a license was not really any more than a speeding ticket. It is now being recognized that there are many fatalities caused by unlicensed drivers. Senator Wiles acknowledged this by showing up at the visitation for Jamie's husband, Cobb County Deputy Sheriff Loren Lilly in January of 2007.

You can see a link with pictures and a little more detail here.

Our Chapter was contacted by a member of Blue Knights Norway Chapter I during the week of May 12, 2008.  Idar is a Captain on the police department back home in Norway.  Idar is currently serving in a law enforcement capacity in Afghanistan.  He had somehow found a Harley Davidson with a side-car for sale in Jasper, Georgia and was hoping to have a Blue Knight go by and take a look at the motorcycle.  He didn't want that person to barter for him, he just wanted them to look at it.  One of the members of Blue Knights Georgia Chapter VI, Tom Leyden lives not far from the motorcycle and went to take a look for Idar and sent him email about the motorcycle.  Idar bought the side-car equipped Harley Davidson and will have it shipped to his home in Norway.  This just goes to prove that Among the Blue Knight Members, "There are no strangers, only friends you haven't met."  Idar even sent us a picture of him in action in Afghanistan!
